LITTLE KNOWN FACT ABOUT OUR NATIONAL HOLIDAY |
In 1863, at the height of the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln signed a proclamation that established Thanksgiving as a national holiday. He scheduled Thanksgiving for the final Thursday in November, and it was celebrated on that day until 1939, when Franklin D. Roosevelt moved the holiday up a week to spur retail sales during the Great Depression. Roosevelt's plan, known as Franksgiving, was met with intense opposition, and in 1941 he reluctantly signed a bill moving Thanksgiving to the fourth Thursday in November. |

REMEMBER OUR SENIORS DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON |
Especially during the holiday season, don't forget our seniors. Here are some ideas. Invite elderly neighbors to your Thanksgiving Feast. Nursing homes and senior centers are sure to need some extra help to make this season special for our older generation. Also, we are very fortunate in Bucks County to have the Twilight Wish Foundation, whose mission it is to grant wishes to economically-disadvantaged seniors age 68 and older. Volunteers are always welcome at the foundation. |
